hard to find 1969 ADVANCE RELEASE WHITE LABEL PROMO first pressing, old white label promos, like this have long been hunted by collectors and are all but dried up ...the white label promos were the first to be pressed off the freshly cut masters, thus retain the best sound quality ...the limited pressings were sent out to select radio stations and news media for review ...here's a nice 'rarity' of an otherwise rare album anyway... 

The sought very first SEA TRAIN who played all the happening SF sixties ballrooms supporting the heavies (Dead, Airplane, Quicksilver, etc.) 

SEA TRAIN had a cool unusual sound, nowhere near as evident as this first album....Flutist/bassist Andy Kulberg and drummer Roy Blumenfeld of Blues Project formed the band with Jim Roberts, ex-Mystery Trend guitarist John Gregory, former Jim Kweskin Jug Band violinist Richard Greene, and reeds man Don Kretmar. They released their first album, "Planned Obsolescence", in 1968, but had to release it as Blues Project for contractual reasons. From the East Coast, these cats headed to the West Coast, settling in the San Francisco hippies & ballrooms scene, and releasing this, their best album, the self titled "Sea Train" -- a cool mix of psych tinged-rock/jazz gems featuring the great vocals of John Gregory, genre-stretching psychedelic guitar from Richard Greene, and the thoughtful songwriting of ex-Blues Project Andy Kulberg. The album holds up well after 40 years and has some marvelous, yet haunting melodies, including two great jams, "Pudding Street" and "Sweet Creek's Suite" (both Andy Kulberg tunes). Two other strong songs, "As I Lay Losing" and "Outwear the Hills," both surfaced again on future albums, but never this good. Needless to say, this album never found commercial success, even on local "underground" stations...AS per usual, 40 years later, music fans/collectors caught wind of the great sounds within and the album is now little seen with most copies tucked in private collections

CONDITION: The cover: is really hard to find clean, so it is special when "M-" grade is applied. This copy should be appropriate for any music collection, the white cover is white!

Gold sticker on front cover advises the record "employs the CSG process and may be played either stereo or monaurally" ...another PROMO sticker at far left.

The vinyl: is very clean M- all glossy clean both sides...the white label promo labels are CLEAN
