Say the word Prurient to people and they fall into two categories. On the one hand, there are those that immediately jump to the dictionary definition - excessive sexual desire, inappropriate interests in matters of the flesh, and objects that inspire arousal. Perverts! On the other, a few might start talking about Dominick Fernow, the US experimental musician, poet and multimedia artist who often performs as Prurient. First unveiled in 2006, Pleasure Ground marked death and rebirth for the project. Although still very much concerned with bone rattling noise and industrial textures, the CD album - dropping on Load Records back then - was the producer's first that feels and sounds fully born of and into the electronic canon. And by that we mean more synths and strange noise machines, less guitar influences.
