Extremely rare 1956 33 1/3 RPM LP release by vocalist, Pat O'Day. Very little information is available about Miss O'Day, but she did have a huge Pop hit before this LP with a song called "A Dear John Letter" (Pat O'Day & the Four Horsemen on MGM). We suspect, but cannot verify that she is the same artist who had 45 singles on labels like Chess & RCA (mostly Teen Pop). O'Day is also listed as a producer on a Golden Crest album by The Wailers in the early 1960's. In any case, the LP we are offering is an excellent outing in the Torch/Jazz singer style. O'Day is accompanied by a 12 piece band arranged and conducted by Golden Crest labelmate, Jack Zimmerman. (Zimmerman is best-known for his odd contribution to Exotica, the LP, "A Whistler and His Dog", featuring his whistling talents!) O'Day's vocal style is breathy and sensual, and Jazz accompaniment (no strings!) is tasteful and well-done. Song selection is all romantic standards like "When Your Lover Has Gone", "Lover Come Back to Me" and "Miss You". LP cover also has the distinction of being one of the greatest-ever "Cheesecake" covers, featuring Miss O'Day (yes, this IS her) in a skimpy negligee with her vintage record player. VERY HOT indeed! Cover has previously had some colored tape on the spine. This has been removed but has left some stains along the left edge which are fairly minor on the front, and more visible on the back. (Front cover slick still looks good, however, as our scan shows.) Top right corner has 5 inch seam split, and back cover has tear at top center. Disc is clean and glossy, mostly showing just a few light marks. Only mark of any signifigance on the disc is on track 3, side B: a 1/4 inch mark which causes popping for about half of the song. Disc as a whole plays beautifully, with only minor surface noise and clear sound. Album is a major rarity, which commands high prices whenever it is offered.
