Item Description: Mer Records, Recorded June 5, 1974. Released in November,1974. Patti Smith's first released vinyl 7-inch single,
"Hey Joe" and "Piss Factory," released on Mer Records in 1974, prior to her blistering debut, "Horses". SIGNED by Patti Smith on the

. Machine stamped matrix numbers, as issued. With Tom Verlaine and Lenny Kaye, and pianist Richard Sohl. Patti Smith's
first vinyl single, "Hey Joe" and "Piss Factory" on the B side, produced by Lenny Kaye for Robert Mapplethorpe.

Condition record : NM. Play tested. Incredible condition for 34 year old vinyl! Some light surface noise on quieter moments, as expected.
NO scratches, NO skips - the 1974 45" plays beautiful from start to finish on both sides. Thicker vinyl than subsequent pressings, the original
release holds up much better. Signed sleeve : NM. Nice and white with little to no discoloration for a 43 year old sleeve, a few creases but
obviously well cared for over the years. A clear, beautiful original 1974 signature in black ink, as issued.
Original first pressing in excellent condition - a true collector's copy!
+
A brand new factory sealed copy of the Sire Records 2017 RSD release of "Hey Joe b/w Piss Factory", limited to 4500 copies worldwide.

                                                          _______________________________

"Some people told me that "Piss Factory" was immoral, that it was base, it's not immoral, it's total truth. To me that little
"Piss Factory" thing is the most truthful thing I ever writ. It's autobiography. In fact, the truth was stronger than the poem.
The stuff those women did to me at that factory was more horrible than I let on in the song. They did shit like gang up on
me and stick my head in a toilet full of piss. People like beauty and purity. They pretend that's what it's all about. I don't
like that. That's immoral."
-Patti Smith interview

"As a teenager, Patti Smith worked summers at a depressing factory that made baby buggies. While inspecting pipes
and reading Rimbaud's A Season in Hell in the factory basement,  Smith dreamed of a better future -- "I'm gonna be
somebody," as this song later declared. "I was saying that as a young person, I still had desire -- desire to do well,
perhaps some of the people in the factory lost all desire. I can understand how that can happen" ... what 'Piss Factory'
is about is: someone who in the midst of the dead felt alive."     -Rolling Stone
