- Artist & Title: Paul Desmond - Take Ten
- Label & Cat #: 1963 RCA Victor – LPM-2569 Mono *Original pressing ~ RE stamped on front of cover does not indicate it is a reissue, but rather a label variation. RCA Victor in grey, not white, and bottom of label reads "Mono Dynagroove Mono", not just "Mono Dynagroove".
- Vinyl Grade: Very Good Plus (VG+) play graded *three superficial scuff marks on Side 2 did not impact play, however a spindle mark on "Take Ten" track created a 90 second sequence of soft ticks. That is basically the only noise interference on record with remaining tracks playing Excellent.
- Cover Grade: Excellent (EX) *near perfect jacket with very limited shelf wear and ready to frame!
- Cover Notes: Cover artwork was created by "Andy Warhol", who was paid $206 in1962 for his effort towards the LP cover art. No one knew the bossa nova cover was a Warhol until research was done by Guy Minnebach, who collects and researches Andy Warhol record cover art. This appears to be a silkscreen portrait of Desmond against a coloured background, and is possibly Warhol’s first silkscreen portrait. While doing research at the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh in 2019 of Warhol’s letters and invoices collected at the Museum, Minnebach turned up an order from RCA Records dated May 1st, 1962 for cover art for the album (see photos). Warhol was not credited on the album cover or liner notes
- Notes: Take Ten enter the heart of the Paul Desmond/Jim Hall sessions, a great quartet date with Gene Cherico manning the bass (Gene Wright deputizes on the title track) and MJQ drummer Connie Kay displaying other sides of his personality. Everyone wanted Desmond to come up with a sequel to the monster hit "Take Five"; and so he did, reworking the tune and playfully designating the meter as 10/8. Hall gets plenty of room to stretch out, supported by Kay's gently dropped bombs, and he is the perfect understated swinging foil for the wistful altoist. There is not a single track here that isn't loaded with ingeniously worked out, always melodic ideas. (AllMusic)

GRADING STANDARDS: (M) Mint: Record and cover appear absolutely perfect in every way. Grade is seldom used, even with sealed albums where the record itself can only be assumed to be mint.
(NM) Near Mint: Vinyl is shiny with no obvious signs of wear and plays perfectly with no audible imperfections. Cover is close to perfect with minor signs of wear or age just becoming evident.
(EX or VG++) Excellent /Very Good ++: Record or jacket has a minimum of audible or visual imperfections. Vinyl has been handled and played very carefully. Light paper scuffs and/or spindle marks may be visible with no appreciable lessening in sound quality. Covers show very minor signs of handling and wear.
(VG+) Very Good Plus: Record displays light scuffs, spindle marks or very light scratches that may create some noise disturbances, but don't affect one's overall listening experience. Jacket begins to show more prominent signs of storage wear and aging.
(VG) Very Good: Defects are more pronounced with visible signs of handling and playing. Surface noise is evident upon playing, especially during soft passages and a song's intro and fade, but will not overpower the music otherwise. Covers may be marred by writing, or have tape or stickers (or their residue) attached, although none of the flaws should be overwhelming.
(G) Good / (G+)Good Plus: Vinyl will have scratches and visible groove wear. Record plays without skipping, although noticeable surface noise or ticks will be heard. Jackets have even more pronounced defects such as seam splits, tape, writing, ring wear, water damage or other defects.
