PAUL MCCARTNEY AND WINGS~ BAND ON THE RUN~ 1973 UK 1st Pressing, complete with inner sleeve and color poster.
Back in 1970's, the world was in the middle of an oil crisis which effected the music industries ability to obtain and produce quality vinyl records due to the fact that vinyl records were produced for petroleum (PVC). This resulted in a decline in pressing quality. Most vinyl records produced during this period where made from low quality, lightweight and were thinner pressings
Records became lighter and more flexible
Heavier “audiophile-style” pressings virtually disappeared in the mid–late 1970s
Many US and UK records from 1974–78 feel noticeably flimsy compared to late ’60s pressings. Plants increasingly used recycled vinyl (old records ground up)
This introduced Surface noise, Pops and crackles and visible impurities (specks in the vinyl)
This is why many collectors feel late ’60s / early ’70s pressings often sound better than mid-’70s equivalents.
This copy of Paul McCartney & Wings BAND ON THE RUN with the matrix-1/-1 superseded the period of low quality vinyl and was made from a higher quality than those that came after. Therefore the sound quality of these harder to find copies is far superior.
