Item : 12” Album – gatefold sleeve

Artist : Peggy Lipton

Title : self-titled

Year : 1968

Issue : original US 1st pressing – Ode Records label # Z12-44006

********************************* A fantastic original US 1st pressing of this only album from Peggy Lipton, perhaps better known as ‘Julie Barnes’, a third of TV’s Mod Squad (1968 to 1973) and later as ‘Norma Jennings’ in the TV series Twin Peaks. She married Quincy Jones and now their daughter Rashida (Jones) has a role in ‘The Office’.

Peggy was only 20 odd when this came out and even wrote four of the tracks. The Goffin-King partnership also features strongly here in the song-writing stakes and apparently Carole King contributes piano on every song. A couple of well chosen Laura Nyro tunes fill out the album giving it wonderful balance that slots somewhere neatly between Lounge and Psychedelic Pop / Rock.

Near impossible to find in this great condition nowadays.

*********************************

Songs :

Side 1:
1. Let Me Pass By
2. Natural Woman
3. Memories of a Golden Weekend (or How I Got the Acapulco Blues)
4. San Francisco Glide
5. Stoney End
6. Who Needs It

Side 2:
1. Hands Off the Man (Flim Flam Man)
2. It Might as Well Rain Until September
3. Wasn't It You?
4. Lady of the Lake
5. Honey Won't Let Me

*********************************

CONDITION : see 4 photos above
Vinyl : A chunky piece of 126grams that sounds just brilliant. Only very lightly played and the playback here is high quality all the way through. No pops, no skips and lovely gloss throughout. The odd light mark makes little difference visually either as it is a magnificent looking piece that plays equally well. Rated EX+ and a real gem.
Labels : Clean.
Sleeve : This gate-fold jacket is terrific as per photos above. Normally you would expect ring-wear and noticeable fading with this type of cover and fortunately there is little evidence of that. Some minor dings at left side corners but no big deal really. The spine is superb and there is no writing or creasing … in fact you’d have to be very happy with this one I would think.
