Description
Period SPLP 510 Kodaly Sonata for Unaccompanied Cello Opus 8. Janos Starker, Cello. Legendary 1950 recording in NM- condition. Original pressing: flat edge, deep groove. It is unusual to find this rare album in such fine condition.
Vinyl 9.5/10 with no visible spindle marks and clean surfaces, few very minor light scuffs and scratches. One 1/16" factory 'pimple' at lead-in grooves of Side 2 that does not affect music. Auditioned in its entirety: light to moderate surface noise typical of early 1950s pressings on ‘hard’ vinyl that is usually masked by the music. (NOTE: older mono pressings should be played with a 1 mil mono stylus for lowest surface noise.) The mono cello recording is superlative: bright, punchy, and highly detailed: one of the best recordings of this instrument I have heard. New generic inner sleeve.
Jacket 8.5/10: shows light wear along edges and has 1” split seam at upper spine. (Spine does not contain lettering.) Front has bright, fresh appearance. Rear has paper tears and shows light discoloration from age. Text is complete and legible.
