Description
Peter Brötzmann's fab driving trio with bassist Peter Kowald and drummer Sven-Åke Johansson recorded in June 1967. This is Brotzmann's first recording under his own name (earlier than Machine Gun, I think) and, although it has been reissued on CD, there is nothing like the feel and sound of the original vinyl.
Jazz Monthly's review on its original release said: "I feel that it should be heard loudly, and not just once, by those seriously interested in today's avant-garde". When the music was reissued on CD, critics again praised the intense and unrelenting free jazz. In All About Jazz, Mark Corroto wrote "this session burns with a passion for life and indefatigable vigor for music making, as fresh as any working unit in jazz today"
If you know Brötzmann, you will know the style, quality and passion of this music. I haven't seen him for years, but this is him at his raw elemental best, firing on all cylinders in his twenties.
I've been asked the sensible question about the condition of this LP. I have just listened to it - had to wait until persons of a sensitive disposition were out of the house (and the cats left as Sanity reached its climax)! Wow, it's lost none of its power! Checking the LP surface visually, I can see no scratches or adverse markings. Listening to it, there are some dust crackles (without optimum dust-reduction and cleaning equipment) but no scratches to interfere with enjoyment of the music. Is that good condition? Very good condition? From my memories of playing vinyl, I would say this is in very good condition (and I've been criticised in the past for describing a mint-condition camera as 'very nice' ... ). As shown in the photos, there is a small green sticker on the front, and a 'Promotion Copy Not For Sale' sticker on the back.
There are a number of other avant-garde and free jazz LPs that I will be selling. If you're interested in knowing more, please contact ...
You are very welcome to collect from near Windsor. Decent packaging for a vinyl LP costs over £1, and I will send via Royal Mail 2nd Class signed-for within mainland UK ... If you can think of a less expensive way, please let me know!
