Nothing at all really like any other Hammill or VDGG record (though if your a fan of 'House With No Door', 'Refugees' and 'Out of My Book' then DEFINETELY get this), if Hammill had shuffled off, Nick Drake style, with just this and the couple that followed it under his belt, he would now be hailed as a fucking legend.

Come to think of it......he pretty much IS hailed as a legend.           

The versatility this man possesses is astounding, for the songs range from the quirky proto-alternative "Imperial Zeppelin" to the visceral tear jerker "Visions". "Vikings" and "Re-Awakening" are the most "prog" cuts on this and "Birds" and "Sunshine" are very similar to what the Beatles did on their later albums. The instrumentation is incredible, especially with the inclusion of Bob Fripp on electric guitar, where his style is more akin to what he did on songs like K.C.'s "Moonchild" and "Book of Saturday". The bottom line is that these are phenomenal songs performed by phenomenal musicians. Peter Hammill is definitely in a league of his own.
