      I am offering yet another wonderful piece of Peter Pan history: three "Original Cast" (of sorts) records of "Peter Pan." When the original sets were destroyed by the Blitz there was no production offered in London for two years (not to mention it would have been rather dangerous to fill a theatre with children during those war-time conditions). Jean Forbes-Robertson repeated her famous role on records in two scenes from the play (on three sides) and Dinah Sheridan, whom had played Wendy and Peter Pan on tour, was asked to repeat her role as Wendy. (For a humorous account of her times as Wendy and Peter Pan, please check out my book, "Peter Pan On Stage and SCreen," where, in an interview, Dinah told me about working with Elsa Lanchester and the great one, JeanForbes-Robertson. There are several songs from the score with John Crook's orginal music as conducted by Clifford Greenwood, who also conducted the orchestra at the Palladium Theatre. Recorded in London in October of 1940 and released in time for Christmas, some of the records were released in a three sleeve album set but most were made available with plain brown paper sleeves advertising other records. The condition of these records varies from excellent to very good. The Sides with Jean Forbes-Robertson and Dinah Sheridan sound best as does side six with various tunes from the score. Here is a unique opportunity to hear "Hook's Monologue," "The Pirate's Song," "Captain Hook's Song," "Lullaby," and "We'll Build a House for Wendy," as well as incidental music composed by John Crook. The lyrics were by J.M. Barrie himself. Good stuff!
