Description
Philips Box Set of the Beethoven Symphonies and an extra recording of the rehearsals with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra conducted by Bruno Walter.
- SABL. 162 Symphony No. 3 (Eroica) both sides play excellently.
- SABL. 169 Symphony No.9 (Choral) side one mostly fine but has 9 consecutive slight dull thudding vibrations halfway through the 2nd movement. Side two plays excellently.
- SABL. 170 Symphony No. 9 side three some mottling/stripiness in the vinyl and a scuff near the beginning but plays excellently. Side four Symphony No. 8 a couple of scuffs but plays excellently.
- SABL. 168 Symphony No.2 side one hairline in 2nd movement has no impact though at the end of the 2nd movement slightly clunky. Side two Symphony No.2 4th movement and symphony No.1 plays excellently.
- SABL. 167 side one Symphony No.4 A couple of dust related ticks near the beginning and a couple of minor clunks at the very end otherwise excellent. Side two symphony No.5 a couple of dust related ticks near the beginning of the 1st movement and at the end of the 2nd movement otherwise plays excellently.
- SABL. 166 Symphony No.7 both sides play excellently. The record is a bit tight on the spindle so the hole in the middle might need a little adjustment.
- SABL 133 Symphony No.6 (Pastoral) vinyl is scuffed and has many scrapes, flaws and hairlines but somewhat miraculously plays all the way through both sides albeit with some tickiness. The major flaws create 4 consecutive sharp ticks middle of side 1 and 10 consecutive less sharp ticks in the middle of side 2. There are some scattered ticks throughout but I still play this record more than the others as it is my favourite Beethoven symphony. Possibly not one for the purist but I love it.
- The extra disc of the rehearsals has one flaw on side one which creates 9 consecutive ticks but only while Mr Walter is talking to the orchestra and is still perfectly clear and audible as is the rest of the record.
- The Box has one scuffed side (see picture) due to storage wear but overall is nice enough. The original inners are all intact with a bit of age related discolouration and a few scrapes.
- The accompanying booklet is VG+ with just a couple of minor blotches on the front.
The package is above 2 kg in weight and therefore I will use Parcel Force for International Deliveries. Global Priority is tracked while Global Value is not tracked.
