Ok, so lets start off with some back-story. In my opinion ALL the original 'gramophone copies' come from the same period - i.e. Q1 1974. The early copies to be found have 'Dr Phang' on the front [top right panel] - but I would imagine many copies exist. So much so that I would argue that ALL the copies from the 1st issue period Q1 1974 co-exist within a two month release / chart period. In other words - ALL these copies are "1st issue". All you are choosing between is copies with a different variation of the cover [Dr.Phang= 1st and Monk = 2nd]. It is true that earliest 1st pressings are most likely to be found with Dr Fang exhibiting. But that's about as far as any sort of logic will prevail. 
The example we have here is what I would call a "late 1st UK Issue". And by that I mean - it was probably sold in February rather than in January '74! Matrix 1/2/1/3. 'Gramophone' present in the perimeter text. This is likely the last use of this text on any Harvest release - and would have been superseded within a month. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original cover [the 2nd version!]. We have the original green and blue inner sleeve. 3 corners die-cut as per 1st issue. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In excellent order and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing heavy or troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with deviation in one track per side. Please note a lot of the audio from this period of FLOYD is extremely fussy. Few copies are likely to have survived playing WELL. When on song this one is clean and impressive - it is not exclusively clean though. I picked up a bit of light static presence in roughly one track per side. E.g. occasionally in Saucerful & Remember & Interstellar. But some of these tracks are going to be hard to find playing perfectly on any copy. They still play well. I detected a couple of clicks as 'Matilda' closes out. Overall a great insight into Floyds early work. A decent and solid rendition of these, now, very expensive classic titles.
Cover (Vg+) I imagine a lot of these covers are going to be looking a bit rubbish by this point in time. This example seems to have avoided the worst of the ageing process. A touch more noticeable in the interior. A couple of minor blemishes on the front. Relatively minor edge wear. The text on the spine is fully legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inners (Vg) A couple of small tears have been tape repaired. Otherwise - aok.
