Pink Floyd A Nice Pair U.K. Gatefold Sleeve + Inners Harvest DBL LP Press EX/EX+

U.K.Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold sleeve Harvest/EMI pressing of Pink Floyd’s ‘A Nice Pair’ DBL L.P. featuring the first & second LPs ‘The Piper at The Gates of Dawn’ and ‘A Saucerful of Secrets’ (Catalogue Reference: Harvest/EMI SHDW 403).  The sleeve is undated however, this will be a mid-to-late 70s pressing.  It still features a matt sleeve and the attractive die-cut (i.e. rounded-edge) inner sleeves featuring the front-cover images from the respective albums.  This came with the copy of ‘Ummagumma’ which I am also selling this week and while not quite as immaculate as that album it is still pretty darn close and a superior copy.  I’d be surprised if each of these albums has been played more than once and I’ll grade each of the records separately.  Under an intense light ‘Piper’ only displays the most minimal amount of thin, tiny hairline scratches.  I note a suggestion of groove wear in one place on the first track on Side One (‘Astronomy Domine’).  There is nothing else to mention.  On ‘Saucer’ I note a superficial surface scuff on the title track and perhaps a few less hairline marks than the other L.P.  These records have clearly never seen heavy play and still retain a lovely sheen to them.  The vinyl is graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.  As noted above the vinyl is contained with inner sleeves which are intrinsic to the package and accordingly deserved to be graded separately.  One of the inners has a green ‘hue’ and one of the inners has a bluey-black ‘hue’.  They have clearly not been handled much and most importantly the vinyl has broken through (and there isn’t even a suggestion that this will be happening anytime soon).  While there is no creasing the inner sleeves are made of paper not card and so they have moulded around the vinyl somewhat.  The only flaw is a very slight ripping effect which is more pronounced on one over the other which is perhaps a result of the inners getting a little damp at some point (this is a point I will return to when discussing the sleeve).  The inner sleeves are graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition and you’ll really struggle to find superior examples.  Unsurprisingly, when you consider what I have already said about the vinyl and inner sleeves the gatefold sleeve is a great example.  The sleeve s largely white and after 30 years+ is still largely white.  There has been virtually no loss of print and certainly no loss of colour through fading, handling etc.  When discussing the inner sleeves I noted a very slight rippling effect and this is something that can be seen on the cover.  It isn’t particularly obvious and I’m not even convinced something has been spilt on the sleeve (because there is no discolouration or staining).  To really notice it you need to feel the sleeve or angle it under a light.  Both top corners are as straight as the day this was pressed but both bottom corners have received light knocks and/or display light wear.  The knock to the bottom right-hand corner has resulted in a small crease in this corner.  The opening edges of the sleeve are still sharp which reiterates how little this copy has been handled/played.  I’m comfortable with an EXCELLENT grade for the sleeve.  It really is a lovely example.

Final Remarks

Barely handled, barely played – You’re going to struggle to find a nicer overall example.  Please check my other auctions for a run of Pink Floyd LPs which I have for sale this week as well as other Pop, R&B, Rock and Soul collectables in similarly immaculate condition.  Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!

I have been a collector for in excess of 15 years now and regard myself as a conservative grader.  I know from experience that there is nothing worse than buying an item which is described with superlatives only for it to arrive and look like it has been scrapped along the floor (!).  As a rule I don’t submit anything to auction which I wouldn’t be happy receiving myself.  I endeavour to be accurate with my grading and all items are graded under an intense light.  Please take a look through my feedback as I’d like to think it speaks for itself. 

Returns Policy

If you are not entirely happy with your purchase then please contact me within 7 days of receipt.  The buyer is expected to meet the return postage costs.

Payment Methods

Domestic buyers can pay via Cheque, PayPal or Postal Order.  Overseas buyers are always welcome and are required to pay via PayPal.  Payment is expected within 7 days of auction end unless otherwise agreed.

Postage Costs

I have had to bring my service in-line with changes to Royal Mail Terms and Conditions effective of April 2013.  Previously items sent via standard post were automatically covered up to the value of £46.00 however, standard postage now only covers items up to the value of £20.00.  Items with an opening value >£20.00 will include domestic Signed For postage costs automatically.  Items with an opening value <=£20.00 and which complete with a value <=£20.00 will continue to be dispatched via standard post unless otherwise agreed (i.e. the buyer indicates a preference otherwise).  Items which have an opening value <=£20.00 but whose final value is >£20.00 will be subject to enhanced postage costs in order to cover the extra insurance which is required.  I hope this is as straightforward as I can make it?  Ultimately, please don’t make payment until you’ve received an invoice from me and if you aren’t happy with the invoice you receive then I’m always open to discussion.  Buyers should be aware that both Ebay and PayPal take a % of postage charges (i.e. they are higher than I’d ideally want them to be).

Multiple purchases will be subject to consolidated postage costs.  I will contact you at the end of the auction to confirm these costs.

Proof of postage is always obtained and retained.
