Le uniche apparizioni di Barrett in quest'album sono la chitarra su Remember a Day (in un primo momento intitolata Sunshine ed inizialmente pensata per The Piper at the Gates of Dawn) e Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun e l'ultima traccia dell'album, Jugband Blues, unico brano da lui scritto e cantato.

A Saucerful of Secrets is the second album by Pink Floyd. The birth of the album coincides with the decline of the mental state of Syd Barrett , the undisputed leader of the band and solo guitar to the entrance of David Gilmour in Pink Floyd. This is the last work of Pink Floyd Barrett who took part before being permanently removed from the group. It was during this period that Barrett begins to suffer the side effects of LSD added to the already hereditary problems of schizophrenia. In his presence , in fact , the recordings are long and difficult , and it becomes impossible for the band to support such weight . The only appearances of Barrett in this album are the guitar on Remember a Day ( at first called Sunshine and initially conceived for The Piper at the Gates of Dawn ) and Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun and the last track album , Jugband Blues, one song he wrote and sang .

The production of the album was given to Norman Smith. The cover and the photos are dell'Hipgnosis Storm Thorgerson , who created many of the covers of Pink Floyd ; is formed by a collage of 13 images which include some fragments of Marvel Comics , the image of an alchemist , images of ampoules and bottles, a wheel with the signs of the zodiac , the sun, a few planets and a small group photo on the banks of a river outside of London . On the cover you can also read the word "yd pinkfloyd p" and the doubt remains about the real meaning of the first letter , in fact , according to some would be the simple repetition of pinkfloyd , while others would ( s ) yd pinkfloyd p ( inkfloyd ), or a tribute to Syd Barrett who had finally left the group in February 1968 . Incidentally, during the publication was removed to the article " the " from the name Pink Floyd.
The album was released June 29, 1968 in England, and July 27, 1968 in the United States .
