Description
There is much to say about this pressing. While the album was released in 1970, pressings continued. This pressing is from 1975 according to Discogs. This is a much sought after pressing with sellers asking $50+ for ones in this condition ON Discogs. It was recorded at EMI's Abbey Road Studio and was pressed at the Capitol Records plant in Los Angeles, California.
Here is an excerpt from the Rolling Stone booklet on Pink Floyd about this album. "The band began developing what would become "Atom Heart Mother" in its live shows....Deciding their burgeoning opus needed a full choir and orchestra, Floyd recorded basic tracks at Abbey Road and passed tapes to Scottish avant-garde composer Ron Geesin....Provisionally titled "The Amazing Pudding" the completed 23-minute suite got its final name just before its performance on BBC radio, when Waters glanced at a newspaper article about a woman with an atomic-powered pacemaker. "Atom Heart Mother" was filled out with four shorter tracks, including Gilmour's Hendrix-flavored "Fat Old Sun" and the sound-effects showcase "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast." Completing the provocatively trippy package was the textless cover by designer Storm Throgerson, whose surreal photograph of a cow named Lulubelle III was plastered on posters and billboards around the globe, despite the label's initial shock. Yet the album charted well in the U.S. and was Floyd's first U.K. Number One, suggesting that toner-friendly concept LP's could be quite the cottage industry."
