Fed up trying to snag a £500 solid Blue 1st issue of DSOTM? Well folks - there is another way to get that amazing 1st year audio on a very solid pressing - without breaking the bank [check out the satisfying bulge in the label shots]. Why not opt for a super clean copy from Spring '74? Because these '74 copies, like this example, carrying the A3/B3 matrix are just one iteration from those famous solid blue copies. How can we be sure it's from Spring -74? Well, EMI changed the perimeter text on all their labels in Spring 74 - from Gramophone to EMI. When they came to DSOTM the typesetters cocked up the labels - and left TWO mentions of 'Made in Great Britain'. Clearly an error - and totally unnecessary. This error is very useful for dating these early copies [along with that matrix A3/B3]. Being only 1 year behind the original masters and pressed on very solid vinyl they are audibly pretty much the equal of the 1st pressings. But lets face it - how much are you gonna pay for a solid-blue that plays this good? $$$? The vinyl comes housed in an early cover with the left hand panel glued shut forming a nice solid front panel. We also have an original blue text inner sleeve, both posters, and both stickers. So, that's the full set. 100% complete and 100% genuine.
Vinyl (Ex+) Wowzers.. Unbelievably good. When I'm right....I'm really right! This bad-boy is very low-mileage and you can see it - and more importantly you can HEAR it. Under close inspection i cannot make out anything more than a couple of very light marks per side.. nothing heavy or troublesome looking. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one slight deviation. For starters - those heartbeats at the start of side 1 - it plays them almost perfectly clean...and most copies do not do that. But as we continue through the LP ALL quiet and fussy low-key points play clean as a whistle. Those moments that cause issue on most copies just glide past with a quiet background. And this allows you to fully take in DSOTM WITHOUT distraction. It allows you to hear it perfectly from a 1 year copy. The sound reproduction is nothing short of stunning. I had only earlier today demoed a SACD of DSOTM...and I have to say I MUCH Prefer this analogue cut. And the quiet background is there too! All I could detect were a couple of static crackles in a couple of isolated spots per side. And a couple of slight ticks early in 'Money' whilst the till register sounds are ringing off at the start [i.e. before actual audio of track begins].. So, it's WIN WIN in all areas. By all means - if you have deep pockets and want the solid-blue...go for it. But anyone on a budget should be carefully considering this copy. Because it will get you super-close at a fraction of the price.
Cover (Vg+) Not quite up to the standard of the vinyl. But hey - it's all about the audio right? Well, this cover is still well preserved and the original aesthetic is still very much apparent. A touch of light surface wear front and back - this is difficult to avoid entirely. Very nice solid opening panel - really like that. The interior looks superb - no issues at all. Edge wear very slight and the openings are still nice and firm. The spine looks great - much better than you typically find with very little wear. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. Very fine indeed.
Posters (Ex) Hardly used. Never been near a wall.
Stickers (Ex) Excellent order. Unpeeled.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing no splits.
