I purchased this album in the secondary market advertised as near mint however a more strict grade is excellent on both the vinyl and the jacket which I am scoring each at 87, solid B+’s. After a light cleaning I played the album through Grado PS1000e’s and the sound was near mint (I’ve heard about a dozen of these ranging from VG+ to NM and by far this was the quietest copy I’ve heard). What is impacting the score on the vinyl is a number of surface marks that stand right out but did not impact the sound. On Side 1 there is a mark running 6cm from the dead wax (2mm is actually within the deadwax) out at about the 10 O’clock position (it runs out from the letter N in the word Original on the White Label). The second is at about 4O’clock and runs from the leading edge in about 4cm. On the B Side there are some light surface marks within the leading edge along with a couple of what look like rub spots from the rice sleeve (I think it can happen if it slides into the bag too fast). As on the front there is a mark at about 9:30 running from the dead wax out which runs 5mm (again 2mm is within the dead wax) along with a mark at 4:30 which runs 5cm (I can’t figure out what these things are, it’s not needle drops almost 100% for sure, it almost looks like the rub mark from the corner of a white eraser, super faint, I just don’t know what these things are or how they got there). These marks disappear when you look at the vinyl from certain angles but if you’re looking close you’ll see them (and as a matter of 100% full disclosure I was expecting noise and if the test play, there was nothing that shouldn’t have been there. Like I said, I heard this cut more than a few times and most have been outright unmarked NM vinyl, this stood out as being the quietest.) As I was listening through the headphones I found myself leaning in towards the record player as it was passing the affected areas like it would make me hear imperfections better. No question, even with these light surface marks this is an excellent copy of this album. Vinyl has since been placed in a new MoFi sleeve. The cover is very close to near mint. Being that the front and rear are almost entirely black they typically show a ton of rub wear, there is hardly any on this cover. There is some light wear within the top seams and a bit more on the bottom (black) seams however no separations. What is a bit strange on the spine is that the yellow is a bit faded but the rest of the label (black, which should have faded faster if it was in the sun) is not. I don't know how it happened or what it is. There is also some light wear within the corners which I attempted to capture as well. All inserts, including an ad catalog I've never seen, retained. Again, this sleeve is very close to the near mint grade but just not quite there. Regarding shipping the album is shipped within cardboard but with the vinyl outside of the jacket inside of a Whiplash record mailer.
