Pink Floyd's 'The Dark Side of The Moon' (SHVL 804) is one of the world's most successful records and widely considered as one of the greatest albums in the Progressive Art - Rock genre. No need to get into the significance and influence it has had on popular music; lets just say it will stand the test of time.
Due to the overwhelming demand and success of this record, many pressings were made....millions and millions. Despite this fact, the copy on offer here is an extremely rare version. The vast majority of pressings had record labels that were smooth to the touch. The one that is listed here have labels that are fully and heavily "textured" (see photos). Previously I had only seen these rough labels on the early UK 'Pink' Island Records releases from 1967 - 1971. My theory is that due to high demand, some pressings of 'Dark Side of The Moon' were done at different pressing plants to fulfill large orders. The other difference with this pressing is even more significant......the audio. I have heard this record from start to finish and it is sensational.....clear; with a vast soundstage...detailed...with subtle nuances and the bass much tighter than on other pressings. Having heard the very 1st UK pressing and Mobile Fidelity's UHQR version, this copy I am offering easily belongs right up there with the other two.
Condition of Gatefold Jacket: VG+ .....this has to be one of the most fragile jackets ever....due to the mat surfaces and fairly thin card, ring wear and scuffing is almost unavoidable.....wear mostly to the spine and corners; an inoffensive 1" tear midway to the lip at the back opening. Despite these minor defects, most of us will admit to seeing far worse examples of this iconic gatefold jacket. Posters and stickers are missing.
Condition of Record: VG+(+) ~ Excellent .....very few disturbances to the audio...mostly in the run-ins....a few inoffensive ticks in the quieter sections; but believe me, once the music begins all these minor details are lost in the background. The audio on this pressing is outstanding.
