Original 1st UK issue of Pink Floyd’s 8th studio album “The Dark Side of the Moon” released on Harvest Records on March 1st, 1973. We know it as Pink Floyd’s most successful album and one of the best-selling albums in the history sound recording. The currently listed copy is the earliest pressing of this release and contains the -A2 / -B2 matrix numbers as well as the solid light blue prism triangle 1st print label. What we would like to pay a special attention to is the fact that this album comes with an insanely rare insert. Its full title is “The Dark Side of the Moon A Piece for Assorted Lunatics by the Pink Floyd”, the initial name of the tour to promote the release of the upcoming album. Original 4-page orange 11¾” x 8 ¼” concert sheet from Pink Floyd’s 1972 British Tour features the complete lyrics of the tour songs. Going back to the description of the album. Original 1st print dark blue gatefold cover with a prism contains a 1st print “Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon” purple sticker on the front. Among three possible types of front openings, the cover of this copy has the third variation where the right front opening of the gatefold cover isn’t sealed. The gatefold interior contains a “Printed and made by Garrod and Lofthouse Ltd.” blue text and the Harvest / EMI logo in the lower left-hand corner. The album comes with the original die-cut black poly-lined inner sleeve with patent numbers and “Made in Great Britain” in silver at the bottom. The album contains a full set of original memorabilia including two posters, one with the pyramids and the other with a photo of the band, and two stickers. Among two poster variations that can be found on this issue, the currently listed copy comes with two glossy posters that are slightly darker in color and have a narrower white border. Two glossy stickers, yellow and light brown, with the tan backing paper having 45 degree angled dark brown diagonal stripes as well as “FasPrint Permanent” and “Crack Back Patented” banner. Original 1st print EMI / Harvest Records labels with a solid light blue triangle prism. The full matrix numbers of this 1st UK pressing are as follows: Side 1 - SHVL 804 A-2 OP 2; Side 2: SHVL 804 B-2 RM 2.

I grade the cover as Excellent Minus. It's very clean but has some light shelf wear on the front and back and a few very light creases on the front. The cover with a sturdy spine doesn't have any splits, wear or residue. The interior gatefold cover is in Near Mint Minus condition. The original black inner sleeve is in Excellent condition. Two original posters and two postcards are in unused Near Mint Minus condition. I grade the glossy vinyl as Strong Very Good Plus. It retains its beautiful factory lacquer only having some very light non-feelable surface marks and scuffs, the majority of which are seen only under a strong light source. The clean labels are in Excellent Plus condition and would be Near Mint Minus if it wasn't due to some very light spindle marks, which just like the light scuffs on the vinyl, can be seen only under a strong light source. The original "A Piece for Assorted Lunatics" concert sheet is in great vintage condition. The vinyl sounds amazing only having some light occasional static which most likely will go away if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
