They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute.

Pink Floyd Debut LP Piper at the Gates of Dawn 1967 First Pressing, Tower Records, VG+/EX!

Vinyl--- VG+/EX.  Side 1 has a few non-feelable scuffs that don’t affect play.  Your stylus won’t even know they’re there.  Retains about 80 to 85% original shine.  Side 2 looks awesome.  Just one or two light angel hairs.  Retains about 90% to 95% original shine. 

**NOTE:  Tower Records was a subsidiary of Capitol Records, and as such, the vinyl stock wasn’t as good as Capitol’s “A” material.  That means that the vinyl on Tower pressings tend to dry out, which translates into surface noise between tracks and in the silent grooves.  A good VPI cleaning, or a couple of D4 applications and plays will significantly help to remoisturize this vinyl, and it should play back beautifully!

Plates--- A1/B2.  These were the very first-day issue plates.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.

Cover--- VG.  Presents well.  Front cover has light dirtwear, not bad.  Back cover has moderate ringwear all the way around the outside.  Top seam and spine have no splits, but the bottom seam has been taped.  Back cover has “Property of Bob Drake” stamped on it.  Thankfully, Bob didn’t stamp the labels as well.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Just a few light spindle marks per side.

Inner Sleeve--- EX.  Original white inner sleeve with no die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  Sleeve has yellowed just a little over the 58 years.  All three seams are perfectly intact and sharp.  NO SEAM SPLITS.

A rice paper plastic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original inner sleeve en route.

RIAA: 2

This copy is going to make a pretty darned good Christmas gift under the tree for someone this year.  Not a NM copy, but certainly a keeper if your collector still needs one of these!

(Please note:  Regarding play-testing, my Technics turntable has somehow seized.  The tone arm is stuck in the up position, and I can’t get it to fully return to its cradle.  Is there anyone out there, who can tell me if this is an easy fix?  Thanks!)
