Description
About this Record. This is a very early (but not the very first) original U.K. STEREO pressing of The Pink Floyd's 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' LP on the coveted black and blue Columbia label. Columbia SCX 6157. The matrix numbers read YAX 3419-1P and -YAX 3420-1O, so this is not the very first pressing. There is no raised KT lettering on the label, so that means no tax was paid! This I think, rarer than the other early pressings that had the KT Stamp. I'm the Tax Man and I KNOW!. This is a keeper copy and sounds superb as I play graded it on my Rockport Sirius turntable with a Benz Ruby 3 cartridge which does not lie! A psychedelic masterpiece and very important addition to anyone's psych/rock collection. This original stereo pressing sounds better than the mono pressings, and is also rarer. Syd, . . Oh, Hans Pokora gives this 3 psychedelic stars; I agree with psych but think it deserves more stars even though everybody has heard about it, but Syd was meant to be heard. Grab it while you can! Won't be relisted, of course.
The Cover. EX. The cover is the laminated UK flipback cover with "printed and made by E.J. Day" on the back cover lower right. The cover shows only age marks at left seam and along flip backs (the usual darkening of the edge). I would grade the cover near mint BUT 'Dougie' wrote his name on the back cover, top left, in small light green marker (see photo). One or two minor crease marks noticeable on the front cover, and a very slight trace of ring wear on front cover if you look real hard. Very tight spine (perfect lettering and corners!). Great keeper copy of this fragile and all important LP cover.
The Vinyl. The vinyl looks EX, has light paper marks, plays NM. No problems. Has -1P and -1Q matrix numbers. A keeper copy! NOTE: When you look at the photos of the labels, the lines you see are not marks on the vinyl, but rather my record shelves in the background reflecting off the vinyl when I took the picture. No Worries.
The Inner Sleeve. The original paper inner sleeve that housed the vinyl (it has been in a rice paper sleeve for decades) features 16 LP covers, including the Yardbirds 'Roger the Engineer' on one side, and the Beatles' Revolver LP on the other side. The paper sleeve is in near mint condition. This will come in a new rice paper sleeve, since I just cleaned it on my VPI record cleaning machine (using non alcohol based cleaner of course).
The Labels. The Labels are near mint, with a couple spindle marks. The Beautiful blue/black UK Columbia label, of course. No writing, tears, price sticker evidence; looks like it has been stored (which it has for a couple decades, courtesy of me) after being opened (except for the slight spindle marks).
About Me. LOOK at my feedback as a Seller! My only negative feedback was from an unscrupulous seller I purchased a record from. I am a record collector, not a dealer, and take this Personally and Seriously (see my feedback!). I sell/trade vinyl to focus my collection, including many $500 and up LPs (not worth my time or your time selling common stuff, of course). Coincidentally, I have two kids in college and sometimes consider selling stuff like this so I can buy more cool stuff. I have been collecting vinyl Seriously for 35 years (psych, garage, hard rock/punk, non-top 40/non-pop). I offer a full refund if you are not satisfied, and refund any excess postage (look at your package and contact me if it indicates you paid more than it says and I will refund you!). Of the several hundred records I have sold for college funds two people wanted a refund; one person because he didn't realize the PS I sold him came without the 45rpm vinyl which was clearly advertised, and one person because the record was a reissue (I was not sure, and included a picture that I thought would have made this clear).
