Description

Here we have a Mono 1967 1st pressing of Piper At The Gates Of Dawn on the blue Columbia label. Complete with original inner sleeve and no mention of 'File Under Popular' on the flipback sleeve.

Side 1: XAX 3419 -2 (6 o'clock) G (3 o'clock) 1 (9 o'clock)

Side 2: XAX 3420-1 (6 o'clock) G (3 o'clock) 1 (9 o'clock)

Condition:

Sleeve: EX: A very smart sleeve with only minor laminate creases and a little wear to the opening edge. The spine is fully readable and in lovely shape. The original shop sticker (Saville Bros. Ltd. Record Shop South Sheilds) is still on the back of the sleeve, at the top, where it would have been placed back in 1967.

Inner Sleeve: VG-: A reasonable example with a minor split at the bottom edge and a side split to half way down. It has some wear to the top edge and a name written in biro on the top of one side along with the album title.

Vinyl (Visual): F+: (I don't know how it happened, but without any editing or trickery, the photo looks better than the LP does in the reality) The album has some nasty looking marks that on closer inspection are non-feelable and not as bad as they look. There is still some shine to the surface, though it has clearly been played many, many times.

Vinyl (Audio): From G- to G+: The album plays through without any jumps or sticks. It has clearly had a lot of play and as a result, there is groove wear in places and a fair amount of, mostly light, background noise. Though this is by no means a mint copy, I still enjoyed listening to it (please note: if you're looking for a really tidy copy, this one's not for you).

Additional (27th oct):

Having just played this LP all the way through, with grading in mind, for a second time this week, I feel that I must broaden the audio grading. This is to avoid any conflict with bidders, as the audio does vary in places.

On my system (a Linn setup) there is still a lot of detail that comes across (smooth, punchy bass, sweet cymbals, layering in the vocals, etc). Many of the tracks play with fairly nice and clean audio most of the way through. However, there are some areas where the groove wear is fairly heavy (eg: the chorus of 'Bike'). On my system these areas of wear are not such a problem, but as I'm an honest individual, who doesn't want to go upsetting any bidders, I feel I must add this extra info.

I hope this doesn't put anyone off, as this is still a nice, rare album (so rare and great in fact, that I've decided to keep the second pressing blue label version I had listed on ebay earlier this week).
