Description
First edition of the classic Floyd debut, this one was issued a few months after the very first pressings as witnessed by the ‘file under’ instructions on the top right of the rear sleeve - the very first editions omitted this.
This is the stereo pressing.
Record has surface marks both sides. On a playback test there’s evidence of surface noise in the between song sections. The music is generally loud enough to obscure this during song playback. There is one skip on the track Flaming on side one, although this wasn’t preceded or followed by any clicks suggesting that it might be groove fill that can be removed with a clean. The song Bike on side two has a lock groove that kicks in just as the song itself concludes but before the reprise kicks in. Again, a clean May clear this out.
Other than the identified issues above I heard no other skips or clicks.
The sleeve has the laminated front with the foldback edges onto the rear. The rear is unlamented. There’s some creasing to the front laminate caused by normal, day to day access of the record. The rear of the sleeve has handling marks but the sleeve incomplete with no rips or tears. See pictures.
The labels are the first edition Columbia. There’s spindle wear as expected. The matrix numbers are YAX 3419-1/ YAX 3420-1.
Ultimately this is a well played record with some flaws but it’s perfectly serviceable if you’re looking for an example of a first press of this iconic record.
I have other records listed. I’ll combine multiple wins in order to give the best postage. The exception is for non U.K. orders where each parcel will have to be mailed separately in accordance with the EBay GSP.
