Mono - 1st Pressing
Release Date: 5th August 1967
Label: Columbia Records Catalogue No. SX 6157
Matrix Numbers: Side 1 XAX 3419 - 2 M 1 Side 2 XAX 3420 - 1 G 1
Label Detail: Black with silver text, Label name and logo in blue. Side 1 has the 'K' & 'T' tax stamp either
side of the spindle hole.
Cover Detail: Front - Laminated flipback cover with 'kaleidoscope' picture of band
Back - Has all the details in place to denote a 1st pressing. Unlaminated except for
flipbacks. This copy does not have 'File under POPULAR: Pop Groups' at top
right on flipback. Both Record Collector and The Pink Floyd on-line Archive
agree this was used on later issues.
Well, that's the technical info - how about condition?
I have tried to abide by the Record Collector Grading System so here goes.
The record has obviously been played - there are minimal spindle marks - and little in the way of surface marks. I can make out a couple of light surface scratches but on playing (Goldring Deck) these were not noticeable. There was some light 'crackling' early on side 1 but this soon dissipated and certainly did not spoil listening enjoyment.
Rating: Very Good +
The cover has some dust residue where the flipbacks are glued down and slight 'fraying' at bottom right flipback. The leading edges are not as crisp as new but have suffered minimal 'feathering' in 40 years.
Rating: Excellent -
The inner dust sleeve is the original, advising 'Add these outstanding LP's to your collection'. These include 'Both Sides Of Herman's Hermits' and 'The Beatles - Revolver'. Again, the sources quoted above agree on this as the 1st issue. The inner sleeve has some light creasing and marking but no more.
Rating: Excellent-

As for the music, I can only imagine what it must have been like to hear this on release just over 39 years ago. I was only 10 so had to wait a few years but the WOW factor is definately still there. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will answer as accurately as I can.
I believe this to be a genuine first pressing of this classic album.
