Description
This copy of Pink Floyd's very first album, The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, is a genuine first pressing from September 1967 on the blue / black Columbia label, in Mono catalogue number SX 6157, now rare
The vinyl is still shiny but with several paper scuffs and a couple of scratches - so visual grade VG, but luckily these don't impede playing and the mono sound is still glorious.
The labels are black with blue Columbia lettering and a blue ''note'' logo. Underneath the blue "Columbia" it says 'Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions. See price lists.' The UK tax stamps K and T are stamped on the label of side 1 on each side of the spindle hole. At the bottom of the label, it says 'Made in Gt. Britain.' Text around the bottom edge of the label starts at 10 o'clock and says, 'The Gramophone Co., Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorised public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited.'
The Ernst J Day & Co cover has a blank top right corner on the reverse - a feature of the very earliest ones made. It has a lovely laminate front, with no damage, virtually perfect spine, and is in almost excellent condition despite the reverse being a little grubby
At nearly 50 years old the LP naturally shows signs of use, but this rare copy is respectable and very collectible. I will start the auction at a low price for this special item
