Description
I am selling part of my vinyl collection which has been accumulated over the years. I am not a dealer but have realised that if I pass these records on they will not be appreciated for what they are.
So on offer here is a First UK press of The PiperAt The Gates Of Dawn by Pink Floyd, released in 1967 on the Blue and Black Columbia label catalogue number SX 6159
I will explain the matrix numbers later but this is one of the very first copies off the press back in the day
THE SLEEVE
The front laminated sleeve made and printed by Earnest J. Day & Co Ltd London is in Very Good Plus condition with a few light “ thumb” creases in the laminate.
The grey back is really in Excellent condition with one or two light spots. The flipbacks are clean white and tight
There is no “ File Under Pop” on the flipback
The spine is clean and sharp with text clear and clean
Overall I have graded the sleeve as Very Good Plus
I cleaned the vinyl on my Okki Nokki Record Cleaning Machine before playing it at high volume on my system ( Michell Gyrodec, SME arm, Naim pre and power amps and Bowers and Wilkins 802D Nautilus speakers
THE VINYL
As mentioned I have played this all the way through on my equipment noted above, twice in fact, so I can give a very clear assessment of the condition
Side One
Matrix Number : XAX 3419 - 2 Stamper 1 H
The record sits totally flat on the turntable
There are a few very light hairlines, and under strong light very short and fine lines caused by removal from the original inner.
There is very light crackle for a second or two on the run in before the music starts, but after that I could not detect and pops clicks or surface noise. In between tracks is silent and the Mono sound quality is superb as you would expect from a very first press
So there are hairlines but the quality of the vinyl and the press means that the sound is not affected
I have graded this side as Excellent sonically, Very Good Plus visually
Side Two
Matrix number XAX 3420 - 1 Stamper 1 L
The record sits flat on the turntable
Side Two is more problematic, there is slight crackle on run in before Interstellar Overdrive starts, but then there is a few seconds of surface noice then it jumps twice in very quick succession. I have checked this under a bright light and I can’t see any marks as such, so I’m assuming it’s a pressing fault
After that there are a few pops in The Gnome and Chapter 24 but nothing significant. There is some light surface noise in between these tracks but after that it is silent
So visually Very Good and sonically the same apart from Interstellar Overdrive which as I said has two jumps
I have been as thorough and honest as possible with the description but if any more detail and information is wanted I would be happy to provide it
The record will be sent in a professional record mailer with two stiffeners used by mail order record shops
