RARE Original 1979 True Earliest UK 1st Pressing Double Album 'The Wall' by Pink Floyd
With Original 1st Press Matrix (A-2u//B-3u//A-1u//B-3u), Very rare 1st Press Sleeve with Only One Seam Join Complete with Original Thick Die-Cut Inner Sleeves
Played prior to listing so described with accuracy.You are bidding on a true ORIGINAL1979 UK 1st Pressing of the progressive classic; The Wall by Pink Floyd. There are a number of features that identify this as the true earliest UK 1st pressing of The Wall from 30 November ,1979 (and not one of the hundreds of thousands of later pressings) Firstly it is one of the earliest UK 1st pressing out there !! Although there are a number of features on this true 1st press uncommon to all the later pressings of The Wall (which I will outline below), Secondly we have the vital differences in the sleeve. All UK 1st issue sleeves were not pure white, they were a creamy colour. As the press run moved forward the white became more bleached until it was pure white. This is the very earliest cream-coloured 1st press sleeve. However, perhaps even more importantly, we have to look at how the sleeve was constructed, This sleeve only has **1** seam join along the top edge. The bottom edge is a continuous fold straight up into the inside of the gatefold. To put it simply, the whole sleeve is constructed from just one thick sheet of card. All later pressings *without fail* have **2** separate sections comprising of a stuck-together inner and outer gatefold panels. Only on the earliest UK 1st pressing were formed from just a single piece of card - this is a sure-fire way to check for a UK 1st press sleeve.
Now we get to the 2 inners. Firstly, and as most people know, they should have rounded die-cut edges. However. look at the thickness and the inside of the inner sleeve. These 1st press sleeves were printed on much much thicker card stock than all later ones (even later die cut sleeves). However, the real point watch for here is the insides of the sleeves, they were not white like the outer sleeves, they were an uncoloured brown card. If the inside of the inner sleeves are coloured white then they are not 1st press inners.
Having established its proper 1979 UK 1st press credentials we now get to the condition of this record, and I can safely say you are bidding on one that is generally in excellent condition.
The Cool blue/white Centre Labels are in excellent condition. I could only make out some faint spindle marks on side 2. All other labels appear to be near perfect. The dead wax areas containing the all important matrix are also excellent.
The vinyls are in excellent condition. They were played prior to listing so I can describe with confidence. Side 1 and 2 have some fine marks that can be made out on close inspection and there is one deeper mark on side 2. That said they play really well and I did not detect any loss of sound quality. Side 3 and 4 look perfect and play as new. Overall vinyl condition is excellent.
Both 1st press heavy card die-cut lyric Inner sleeves are in very good condition. There are however seem splits on one edge of each sleeve. There is also a small amount of staining on side 2 lyric sheet (see photos).
The classic 1st Press Gerald Scarfe & Roger Waters designed Gatefold Sleeve is in very good condition. There are a few flaws such as some minor discolouring, a small scuff where a it appears that a price tag may have deeb removed and 2 small splits on the edge (see photos). The spine is in excellent condition as is the interior artwork. NO Scribbles and NO unwanted writing of any kind!!! It is nice and stiff and folds out perfectly
