J.R.R. Tolkien, William Elvin, Donald Swann. Directed by Howard Sackler

Caedmon Records, TC 1231 (TC 91231)

Made in U.S.A.

Released 1967

The Poems and Songs of Middle Earth is an album of songs and spoken-word poetry by J.R.R. Tolkien and Donald Swann. Vocals are by William Elvin. Featuring songs and poems from Tolkien's 'Adventures of Tom Bombadil' and 'Lord of the Rings'.

This album is an absolute must-have for fans of Tolkien, Lord of the Rings or literature in general.

Side 1 is a super-rare recording of Tolkien reading from Tom Bombadil, recorded on 15th June 1967

Side 2 features a short reading in Elvish followed by 'The Road Goes Ever On', with music composed and performed by Donald Swann (of Flanders & Swann fame) and sung by William Elvin.

This album is hard-to-find and highly collectible. Mint condition copies are being sold on this site for prices in excess of £100. This copy has a poorly preserved cover; it is split along the top and shows signs of shelf wear and is a bit grubby. It is, however, unrestored so there's no tape residue etc.

It is the vinyl that is the star here. It is in remarkably good condition, void of scratches and fingerprints. Please check out pictures in order to see for yourself.

So get bidding now and bag yourself a rare and historic literary artefact!
