Gavazzeni with Cerquetti, Del Monaco, Bastianini - Ponchielli LA GIOCONDA - 3LPs Collector's Jacket - Decca SXL-2225-6-7 (Black ffss) - RARE!!
Among the most sought after opera series on the planet are the early Black Label Decca ffss discs, of which this set is one.
It features The Chorus and Orchestra of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Gianandrea Gavazzeni at baton, with soloist support from Italian notables Anita Cerquetti, Mario Del Monaco, Ettore Bastianini, and Cesare Siepi.
This rare edition comes in a collector's heavy-duty protective gatefold, readily available then for these early releases.
It houses the booklet, which can be seen through the protective window, along with the three black-label ffss discs.
The plastic jacket is quite presentable, with its window un-bubbled (which in itself is rare). Inside, the booklet is very clean and crisp, only slightly yellowed, and the three discs should play NM- to VG+ with nary a mark. Very well tended set.
The original release in stereo, from the renowned opera staff at Decca, in plainly fine shape. A rare vinyl classic, to be sure.
