Portishead's 'Dummy' is a groundbreaking debut album that has left a lasting impact on the music industry. The album is often credited with popularizing the trip hop genre and is frequently cited in lists of the best albums of the 1990s. It received critical acclaim and won the 1995 Mercury Music Prize. The album's innovative sampling and production, alongside Beth Gibbons' incredible vocals, create a unique soundscape that is both musically compelling and emotionally chilling. 'Dummy' is considered a masterclass in atmospherics, with its downbeat, mellow cuts perfect for late-night listening to cinematic moments. The album's exploration of emotional vulnerability and urban isolation invites listeners to step into Portishead's stark, shadowy world. A truly seminal album of the 1990’s.
