Description

Baron Elmo proudly presents an excellent and rare title from the salad days of UK electropopsters PRAM: an original UK vinyl edition of their Helium LP, released in 1994 by the Too Pure label. While Pram's earliest releases – the Gash and Iron Lung EPs – created pop music from a bare-bones framework of cheap electronics and kitchen-table-and-cutlery percussion, they had expanded their sound considerably by the time they cut Helium, achieving a heavily Krautrock-influenced pop manna that will have Stereolab and Can devotees swooning. Quirky, catchy melodies abound atop a dark, brooding undertow of throbbing, almost dub-like bass tones and skittering percussion... with instruments like theremin, trumpet and vibes folded into the mix for extra flavor. The result manages to come off sweet, catchy, and menacing at the same time – a pretty impressive feat, that. This is an amazing LP that's as good as anything Pram has ever done – currently available in a repressed edition on the Medical label, but it can't equal the drop-dead coolness of owning a genuine Too Pure original. This LP was purchased new by Baron Elmo and treated with tender loving care. Both the record and cover are in beautiful shape.
