'Presenting The Harry South Big Band'. This superb album (Mercury mono 20081 MCL) was recorded on the 25th and 26th of January 1966, and features the cream of modern British jazz. All the arrangements are by Harry South, who is on piano, and he is joined by, among others, Ian Hamer and Ian Carr, trumpet, Ronnie Scott and Dick Morrissey, tenor sax, Tubby Hayes, tenor sax and flute, Pete King, baritone sax, Gordon Beck, piano, and Phil Seamen, drums. There are eight choice tracks here, among them a wonderful version of Billy Strayhorn's 'Lush Life'. The condition is as follows : Vinyl : Very clean on both sides with a couple of light surface marks and a little spindle wear. Plays beautifully. Sleeve : The corners are bumped, with some laminate creasing to the front and a bit of wear to the bottom edge toward the opening. The reverse is fairly grubby, with what I take to be an owners stamp to the top left corner. No splits and generally very good. Overall, a very nice copy of a scarce album.
