Prince "Purple Rain/God" Rare 7" Picture Disc Single '84 Promo Clean Unplayed
In 1984, Warner Bros Records pressed a limited amount of this rare 7" picture disc to memorialize the third single and title track from the movie soundtrack album that had made him a god that summer. The disc features a 4:02 edit of "Purple Rain" on the front (Prince) side and a B-side 3:59 version of his song "God," a version for which Prince re-recorded a new vocal in August of '84 in Minnesota. (The song was doesn't appear on the PR album.)
Note that the grooves are pressed into the vinyl in the size of a 7" single, but the actual size of the cutout edges are as large as 11". The photos should demonstrate clearly for your consideration.
Distributed in the UK, several Euro countries, and the US, this rare, limited picture disc was created primarily to reward radio, music media, and WB business partners as a gift. I received mine from a friend in marketing at the label in '84. It's been carefully stored and never played. I removed it after 41 years to photograph and inspect for this offering. I'm now storing it in a new 3mil plastic sleeve (see photos). The original heavier plastic sleeve is in good shape and will accompany the disc, of course.
