Public Image Ltd. – Metal Box – METAL 1 - 3 LP Set
1979 Virgin Records Ltd.
This is the original 12 inch 45rpm 3 record set released in the round tin. A must have for all PIL fans. Just could be my favourite album of all time.
The vinyl looks to be in fantastic condition and still retains the same lustre and shine as when I bought it. I couldn’t detect much in the way of scuffs or scratches, just the usual paper scuffs. I struggled to see much spindle damage. I cannot remember playing this more than a few times as I would usually record my albums upon purchase. I also bought Second Edition on its release and tended to play that.
Pil released this as three 45rpm records to get the best sound quality possible. I also have the first release of this on cd. The sound quality of the records is far superior to any of the cd releases. Indeed Wobbles’ base on Albatross just punishes the speakers.
The tin has tarnished with age as with all of these. I have never tried to polish the tin. It still retains the original METAL 1 sticker on the bottom.
Also contained is the original track listing and credits insert which is in great condition. It just has a few light creases. There are no tears on the four original white inserts which sit between each record. Two of the inserts do display some discolouration.
All in all a great addition to anyone’s collection. I’m sure I’ll be a little sad when its time to post it off!
