Steve Jansen and the YMO's Yukihiro Takahashi combine forces for this predominantly electronic-based chill out recording, which has a certain high class lounge feel to it. The album was released on the now defunct Medium label and has been out of print for many years - although you can still find the re-mix version of the album if you look in the right places. The addition of warm female vocals to certain tracks make for an interesting and welcomed move, which helps to create a real diversity within the music which somehow manages to create an upbeat yet relaxing mood. A very listenable and very enjoyable record which can be enjoyed by a wide range of patrons - no JBK experience required!
Notes: In September 1997 Steve Jansen and Yukihiro Takahashi formed a UK based unit known as 'Pulse' and completed a 6 track album in Tokyo and London under the same name. Released on Yukihiro's own label, Consipio Records, in Japan on 17th December 1997, Medium Productions are releasing a limited edition of this recording including the deluxe version of the booklet.
An intimate and exotic interpretation of vocal material within the influences of contemporary musical styles. Female vocalists from England and India, as well as the charm and warmth of Takahashi's own voice (heard rarely in English), embellishing the combined songwriting approaches of Jansen and Takahashi - both innovative drummers with 80s bands (Japan and YMO respectively), who now both define their own musical genre. The tracks feature English female vocalist Zoe Niblett who has previously recorded with 'Locust'. Yukihiro also performs vocals, as well as Indian classical singer Sonia Mehta, with backing vocals from Tony Mansfield.
