A Day at the Races 1U/1U (First pressing)

On offer here is a stunning first press of the classic A day at the Races.  It's very rare to find a 1U/1U pressing in this condition and especially with such an excellent gatefold also.

Visual grading

In a word stunning.  I would say this LP has been hardly played, if at all.  I could not detect any hairlines at all under a bright light and there is absolute minimal spindle wear on the labels.  This is in amazing condition for a rare first pressing.

Play grading  

Side One plays with superlative audio.  With almost no lead in static to 'Tie Your Mother Down' you know you're in for a treat!  'You Take My Breath Away' begins so quietly and yet there is almost no static and is without doubt the best version I have heard on a first pressing.  The quiet sections on 'The Millionaire Waltz' play in sublime fashion again with no static to be heard, simply stunning.  With no clicks or jumps this side is as close to Mint as you will find in my humble opinion.

Side Two also plays with equal quality and I would say this is the best 1U/1U first pressing I have heard.  The depth and richness of sound is as good as you will find on any new high quality produced vinyl.  The quiet sections again play with stunning clarity and any static you hear is so much in the background as to be totally superfluous anyway.  You expect to hear some background static on any vinyl really but there is basically none here to speak of.  The intro and end of 'White Man' is astounding, the sound is superb.  This is high quality vinyl at its best and if any fan is after a final upgrade first press then this is the one!  With only two faint clicks during 'Good Old-Fashioned Loverboy' this side again plays almost as Mint.  Very slight distortion on 'Teo Torriatte'.  It has amazing audio for a vinyl now 40 years old.

Cover

The G & L gatefold is one of the best I have seen.  The black cover so commonly has a lot of wear but this one has stood the test of time extremely well.  The only real area of wear is a small sticker mark in the top right hand corner that appears to have worn away a minimal amount of the cover beneath it.  Other than that the edges and spine are in near pristine condition with only a hint of shelf wear on the top and bottom of the opening edge, very minimal.  With a few minor creases here and there and very light spotting on the reverse this gatefold remains one of the best you will find for a first press.
