Description
This early press of A Day At The Races plays incredibly well. I have played it through in its entirety and there hardly any background noise to speak off. There are no hairlines whatsoever and it retains a strong glossy sheen of new vinyl. It really is in great condition for such an early press.
Side One starts with the slightest of lead in static but from then on it plays with a rich clear sound. 'You Take My Breath Away' for example plays so silently it has no crackle at all, simply stunnning. 'The Millionaire Waltz' has a couple of small pops but that is it. There is absolute minimal crackle during the entire play.
'Somebody To Love' plays with a richness and clarity that is stunning and the best I have heard. The intro to 'White Man' is again sublime which can be said for the remainder of the side. I think it could almost be described as Mint but of course systems play differently but on my Technics system I could barely hear any background noise at all. It really is a stunning listen and obviously has no skips or jumps. There is just minimal crackle during 'Teo Torriate' but it definitely does not interfere with the track at all. Overall an amazing listen for a vinyl nearly 40 years old!
The Garrod and Lofthouse gatefold cover has been kept in excellent condition and only has slight wear. It has some mottling but it does not detract from its quality, this is very common with this black cover. It only has slight shelf wear and is free of rubbing on the corners. Some white spotting on the front and back but to be honest this is one of the best covers I have seen of this classic LP. The edges overall are very clean and it retains a strong wide spine that is 100% legible. The opening edge is nigh on perfect. The inside of the gatefold is also in excellent condition.
Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system
