A Night At The Opera 2/2 1st pressing

This is one of the earlier first pressings as it has only two stampers on each side.  The vinyl has hardly been played and plays to an extremely high standard and includes a very clean original gatefold and an inner with no splits!

This of course has Blair's (not 'Blairs cut') etched onto the run out grooves as per all the 2/2 pressings.

  This is a beautiful looking vinyl!  A visually stunning 2/2 pressing that has been hardly played as there is barely any spindle wear.  It has a superb glossy sheen and I am finding it difficult to find any hairlines and obviously there are no scratches.  This looks 'as new' and I haven't seen a genuine first press as good as this in a long time.  Absolutely stunning!

Play grading

'Death On Two Legs' plays with excellent audio but there is some crackle on the first 20 seconds per revolution of the record although I cannot see what is causing it.  Thereafter the audio is super impressive and plays with stunning power and no other interference at all.  There is complete silence in the dead wax and then 'Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon' has audio that can only be graded as Mint- the quality is astounding.  'I'm In Love With My Car' again plays perfectly and the sonic quality here is just tangible.  The audio is just spectacular!  I can confirm this quality continues, for example the quite intro on '39' plays with total precision and no 'background' at all.  Again this track grades as Mint- and 'Sweet Lady' equals that without doubt.  As is often the case I am adding the minus because the album isn't sealed!  'Seaside Rendezvous' plays very clearly although there is some distortion on the vocal that is always prevalent on this track.  No clicks, pops or crackle though.

The intro on 'The Prophet's Song' has only a small number of faint dust ticks and plays with incredible definition.  So often it is affected by intrusive crackle but that certainly isn't the case here.  The track continues in superb style with no 'background' whatsoever and the acapella mid section is quite possibly the cleanest I have ever heard on a 2/2 first pressing.  A couple of mega faint dust ticks only it plays with breathtaking precision and clarity, wow!  To the end this classic plays with Mint- quality and the lead in to 'Love Of My Life' is sublime.  Again this section plays with such fantastic clarity and is the best I have heard in a long time.  There are a couple of light clicks in the middle section but overall this track exudes 'high end' quality.  Near perfect aside from that minor interference.  'Good Company' has wonderful sound quality apart from one click on the intro.  The intro on 'Bohemian Rhapsody' impresses with stunning clarity and only the faintest of barely audible static in a couple of places, not worth mentioning really!  From then on this classic plays with near immaculate sound, just one soft click only.  The power is incredible, has no distortion and even the quiet end section has Near Mint quality, just a hint of static literally on the last couple of notes.  'God Save The Queen' ends this iconic album with superb sound and no intrusive interference.

The Gatefold

This iconic embossed gatefold is in excellent condition with only minor shelf wear.  The edges and wide spine are in superb order with no rubbing and the corners have hardly any wear either.  The opening edge has almost zero handling wear.  The cover has retained its 'whiteness' incredibly well and there is only a little fading around the edges on the front cover and one small mark on the right side.  The back cover is similar and also has some faint marking top left.  Overall though it is very clean cover that has stood the test of time very well.  The inside of the gatefold is near perfect with only a handful of very faint marks top left and right.

Picture inner

This inner, with the three cut corners, amazingly has no splits!  It does have a little rubbing on the bottom edge and on the corners but remains very clean overall.

The labels

They look practically as new, are super clean, and have barely any spindle wear.  No marking or writing either.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
