A Night At The Opera 2/2 1st pressing

This stunning first press has been very well maintained down the decades.  The audio plays to a wonderful standard overall and the gatefold and inner are very near perfect.

This of course has Blair's (not 'Blairs cut') etched onto the run out grooves as per all the 2/2 pressings.

  This is a very clean vinyl and whilst it has been played a number of times judging by the spindle wear it has always been carefully handled as confirmed by the audio and just how good it looks.  There are only a small number of very faint hairlines on both sides with one short one on S1 that is more obvious and a little line of faint scuff type marks on S2 but neither have any affect on the high quality audio.  It still has a high sheen to it and for a 2/2 pressing it is a very impressive looking vinyl.  The gatefold and inner are in superb condition.

Play grading

'Death On Two Legs' begins superbly with barely any static and then proceeds to play with real power and no interference at all.  'Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon' continues this high quality and is Mint- from start to finish.  I am pleased to report the immaculate audio carries through until the end of S1.  3/4 very light static sounds on the 'You're My Best Friend' intro but aside from that it plays perfectly.  A special mention for '39' as this easily grades as Mint- the quality is stunning.  As I often say the minus is only being added because the album isn't sealed!  'Seaside Rendezvous' plays very clearly and with little of the distortion that is always prevalent on this track.

The intro on 'The Prophet's Song' is absolutely incredible! So often it is affected by static/crackle and because it is so quiet any sound that shouldn't be there is easily picked up.  There is no extraneous 'background' whatsoever, the clarity is breathtaking and the acapella middle section also plays with the same quality.  With only one dull click it is rare for this classic to play with such precision let alone on a 2/2 first pressing.  The power is tangible and this is definitely one of the best versions I have ever heard.  Admittedly there is one loud click towards the end but overall the audio here is 'high end' to say the least.  'Love Of My Life' does have three clicks on the intro and a handful of dust ticks but there is no crackle and the remainder plays in exemplary fashion with no other obvious 'background'.  Overall it is a stunning listen.  'Good Company' has a minor amount of dust ticks on the intro and then plays with Near Mint quality without doubt.  'Bohemian Rhapsody' impresses with sublime audio but there are a small number of dull clicks on the intro.  Thereafter the clarity and depth is immaculate.  It 100% has the wow factor!  The power is incredible and there is no distortion whatsoever and even the quiet end section plays with stunning quality, just a little 'background' on the last 3/4 seconds.  'God Save The Queen' ends this iconic album with superb sound and no intrusive interference at all.

The Gatefold

This is a fantastic example of this embossed gatefold and it remains in super clean condition.  The edges and spine are in superb order with no shelf wear at all and even the corners have barely any wear.  I cannot stress enough just how visually stunning it is!  It has retained its 'whiteness' incredibly well and there is no obvious marking whatsoever, just a couple of mega faint marks on the back cover.  The front cover is beautifully clean with only a small area of very faint marking bottom right.  The inside of the gatefold is also in superlative condition and the opening edge looks untouched.  One of the best I have ever seen, a fantastic example.

This has no splits, something of a rarity today.  With the three cut corners it is near perfect aside from one tiny area of rubbing on the bottom edge but I repeat it is not a split!

The labels

They are both very clean with some spindle wear only.  No marking or writing.
