QUEEN  -  'The Complete Works'      14xLP box set     UK      1985      EMI QB1

Lavish and sought after box set featuring all the studio and live albums released by Queen up to and including ‘The Works’ (but not compilations).

The set comprises the albums: ‘QUEEN’, ‘QUEEN 2’, ‘SHEER HEART ATTACK’, ‘A NIGHT AT THE OPERA’, ‘A DAY AT THE RACES’, ‘NEWS OF THE WORLD’, ‘JAZZ’ (SEE NOTE BELOW), ‘LIVE KILLERS 1’, ‘LIVE KILLERS 2’, ‘THE GAME’, ‘FLASH GORDON’, ‘HOT SPACE’, ‘THE WORKS’.    Also included is the LP 'COMPLETE VISION', which contains several non-album tracks.   

Each album is digitally remastered and comes in a white sleeve.   Each sleeve is embossed with the Queen crest logo on the front and is numbered 1 – 14 in Roman numerals.  The album title is printed on the sleeve’s spine. 

In addition, the box included two books and a fold-out world map.   One book; ‘The Complete Works’, features all the albums' artwork, tracklisting, chart positions etc.   The other book; ‘Tour Itinerary The World: 1971-1985’, lists all Queen’s concerts up to that point and other related touring info.     The fold-out world map shows where Queen have performed and charted. 

PLEASE NOTE; UNIQUE RARITY WITH THIS SET.     This box set includes an additional copy of the ‘Jazz’ LP, so it actually has 15 LPs in total.    One of the ‘Jazz’ LPs has a clear manufacturing error with a label stuck over a lot of the vinyl making one side un-playable (see photos).   Presumably this was spotted early enough, and a correct ‘Jazz’ LP was included, but the faulty disc was still left in by mistake!   (The faulty disc and its sleeve are not included in any part of box set’s condition description). 

Also, the ‘Queen 2’ album has side1 (aka side white) labels on both sides.  Record plays correctly and is not mispressed. 

ITEM IS VERY HEAVY.  

CONDITION:       I strive to provide an accurate and honest appraisal of condition.  It’s in my best interests to do so.  I WANT YOU TO COME BACK!    All records are checked in good light and play tested at a loud volume (unless described as sealed, brand new or stated otherwise).   All used records are cleaned using a Moth vacuum record cleaning machine prior to play testing.    STRICT  U.K. MAGAZINE  'RECORD COLLECTOR'  GRADING SYSTEM USED.

Playing condition.   These box sets are usually collected by fans who already own all the Queen LPs so consequently are not played a great deal.  Indeed, with this particular example a lot of the sides have clearly had very little previous play.    Vast majority of the sides either play EX/EX+/NrMINT.    Only issues of slight concern are ‘Live Killers 2’ side1 which has some audible surface noise/crackle in places – still no lower than VG at its worst, but still with the majority of the side in better playing condition than VG.     ‘The Game’ side2 has some very short moments (fraction of a second) of interference in places – very infrequent and still EX grading.      3 or 4 consecutive pops as side1 of ‘Hot Space’ fades out.       There may also be an odd light pop or very infrequent light, minor surface noise in places - I’m being highly critical here as these are very low in the mix and only really noticeable if listening for faults rather than for pleasure.   

Visual condition.    Vast majority of the sides are EX, or above.   Several albums have light surface marks/hair-lines/scuffs - 99% of which have no obvious effect on play.   ‘Flash’, ‘Hot Space’ and the two ‘Live Killers’ LPs have more noticeable surface marks, but still no worse than VG+/EX-.    Vinyls still look nice and clean and retain their original sheen.    

Vast majority of the individual white sleeves are in EX+ condition.   Very occasional light crease.   Overall still nice and clean/neat.    Small light yellow mark on front of ‘Jazz’ cover.   Thin scuff mark near the bottom of ‘Live Killers 1’ sleeve.       NO seam splits.  NO stickers.   NO writing.      Item will be packed accordingly to avoid damage to these sleeves during transit. 

As clearly seen in the photos, box has been customised with a number of Queen stickers.   Box is structurally sound with no serious faults apart from a bit of scuffing in places and an odd crease (see photos).

Both books have some mild crumpling and a couple of tiny spot marks here and there.  Still easily in at least EX- condition, if not better.  NO loose pages.  NO nasty creases.

Map in EX condition.   Mild rubbing/crumpling only.   NO tears or unsightly creases.

Record Collector Magazine Grading System  - VINYL

MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint

EXCELLENT (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG) The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratches. Normal wear and tear on the cover and extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable

GOOD (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeable deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and or deface

POOR (P) The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing

BAD (B) The record is unplayable or might even be broken and is only of use as a collection filler
