Description
This is a very rare early press of Queen's debut and has the very rare KIP-HUGGYPOO KISSY etched in the dead wax on Side One and AGAIN! on Side Two with the 3U/3U matrix numbers. Visually the vinyl retains that glossy sheen and is clear of any scratches. It looks so well looked after, visually stunning. It just has a few of the faintest hairlines that you can only see under a bright light and I am sure are only due to sleeve removal. It is without doubt the best 3U/3U I have sold.
Side One plays with no lead in static which is amazing when you consider it is 42 years old. 'Keep Yourself Alive' plays with such clarity and I only heard one click literally right at the end. 'Doing All Right' plays extremely with no skips or jumps, just a little intermittent crackle. 'Great King Rat' is plays with wonderful depth with no background noise at all, I simply cannot believe the audio it is that good, just one minor click right at the end. 'My Fairy King' follows in the same way with very clear audio and practically no background interference. If anything it plays with just the slightest distortion.
You won't be surprised to hear that Side Two plays much the same way. No lead in static, 'Liar' sounds breathtakingly good with only the slightest hint of crackle. 'The Night Comes Down' again plays so well but with just 3/4 very light clicks. 'Modern Times...' plays almost perfectly. The final three tracks again sound great with no pops or clicks, just very minor distortion at least on my system but in no way mars the listening enjoyment!
Considering how well the vinyl has been cared for it will be of no surprise to find the Garrod and Lofthouse cover in wonderful condition. It is definitely the best I have seen for a 3U press. Probably kept in a PVC sleeve all its life it has hardly any shelf wear. The edges and corners are extremely clean, it is very difficult to find fault! It has very minor ringwear on the front cover and absolute minimal rubbing on the bottom two corners. The opening edge has very very slight wear. The reverse side is in great shape with no flaws and the thin pinched spine looks as new. Many would grade this cover as Near Mint. No writing or marks at all.
It comes complete with the original inner 'Care Of Your Record' sleeve which does have a split down one side.
I have to mention again the quality of this record. You would be hard pressed to find a better 3U pressing it is that good. It lies perfectly flat on the turntable and plays with such a deep rich clarity with only minimal background noise. That in itself is very rare for Queen's debut as so many were played to death and just not looked after well. I should perhaps hang on to it until it's 50th anniversary but I'll let someone else enjoy the audio pleasure :-)
Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system
