Description

Queen : Sheer Heart Attack 3U/4U 1st Press

This first pressing plays to a superb standard with only minimal interference at the start of S2.  Apart from that it plays with sublime quality and the vast majority of the record is 'as new' without a doubt.  It has not been over-played (there is hardly any spindle wear) and the clarity and depth of the music is very impressive indeed.

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with only one minor corner crease and the lyric inner is also super clean with barely any wear.

EMC 3061 // YAX 4881-3U / YAX 4882-4U // RH 1 / AG 4

The audio on S1 is Mint(-) (T1 Near Mint)

The audio on S2 is Mint(-) (T1 first vocal Ex- / T3 Ex+)

The cover is Ex+

The lyric inner is Near Mint-

The labels are Ex+

Visual grading

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a very strong glossy sheen.  S1 is visually stunning with no marks or scratches and only a handful of very faint sleeve removal hairlines.  S2 is almost as good with just one very small hairline scratch on the first track and perhaps a few more hairlines but they are still very faint.  The EMI labels have barely any spindle wear but do have some mottling 'spots' which can only be seen when you hold the record at a certain angle.
Play grading

The lead in grooves on S1 have no 'background and the 'fairground' intro on 'Brighton Rock' then plays with stunning clarity.  As Brian comes in closely followed by Freddie the audio is out of this world!  The production values on this album have always been highly praised and the sonic quality is even more to the fore on a super clean vinyl such as this.  This opening section is faultless and the iconic instrumental then plays with with great quality also.  The power and depth of the music is awesome!  There are a handful of very light static ticks but they do not impact on the audio as they are so quiet and there is no actual background static.  The final vocal is perfect and overall I would grade this as Near Mint but is very close to Mint- it has to be said.

'Killer Queen' plays with sublime clarity from start to finish with no interference of any kind.  An easy one to grade this is Mint every day of the week, no need for a minus here.

The often underrated 'Tenement Funster' is of the same 'high end' standard with no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static either.  The clarity and power of the audio is 'as new' and Mint is again deserved.  What a version!

The segue into 'Flick Of The Wrist' is flawless and it continues to play like it has never been played before!  There is no 'background' and the audio is just so deep and strong.  The vocal and instrumental sections play with great quality and there is no distortion on the top end and there are no negatives.  A sublime Mint version.

You might think that the relatively quiet 'Lily Of The Valley' would play with at least some 'background' but no the clarity is equal to that of a recently pressed vinyl and I am confident in grading this as Mint - even the fade out has no interference.

'Now I'm Here' has only 3/4 barely audible dust ticks and as the volume increases there is no let up in quality.  As many Queen collectors will know this track often suffers from inner groove distortion but this is one of the 'cleanest' versions I have encountered in many a year.  The sonic quality is again superb and even as you reach the 'high octane' 'Don't I love him so...' section there is still no distortion and you can certainly turn this up to loud!  The remainder cannot be faulted and the long fade out just has a little static right at the end.  A very impressive Mint- end to the side.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roger's 'vocal scream' on the 'In The Lap Of The Gods' intro has never sounded better!  The entire intro is near perfect with only a couple of light ticks near the end.  As the vocal begins there are a few light clicks but they are not loud and the music still comes through very clearly.  As the volume increases the playback is stunning and the remainder does not disappoint either.  The opening vocal is Ex- but the rest is Mint- for sure.

'Stone Cold Crazy' plays with stunning power and depth throughout with no sign of any interference.  It is Mint and then some!  A fantastic version that rocks out on every level!

'Dear Friends' plays so clearly for such a quiet track with only a minimal amount of light static at the beginning and at the end.  An Ex+ version I would say.

'Misfire' plays with stunning quality from start to finish with no interference and that includes the fade out.  Mint

The vaudeville style 'Bring Back That Leroy Brown' is another track that plays with A1 clarity throughout.  Each note is again so clean and precise and Mint is easily deserved.

'She Makes Me' plays with incredible depth from the very first groove and continues to impress.  The playback here is sensational and once again there is nothing that intrudes on the quality of the audio.  This is Mint as it could not play any better and even the final 'breath' has no 'background'!

'In The Lap Of The Gods...revisited' ends the album in fine style with...no interference.  The original sonic quality is still there and for once the powerful end section has no distortion.  A stunning Mint finish to this classic album.

In summary this first pressing plays to a superb standard with only a little interference at the start of S2.  It only lasts for a few seconds and the rest of the side is close to perfect with only minimal static on 'Dear Friends'.  S1 is stunning and even though I have graded 'Brighton Rock' as Near Mint the vast majority does play with perfect clarity and definition.  A very impressive album overall.

The Cover & Lyric Inner

The laminated cover is in great condition with very little shelf wear.  The edges and spine have no rubbing/wear and there is hardly any corner wear either.  Only the top right corner has minimal creasing which you can also see on the reverse side and the opening edge looks untouched.  The front cover is super clean with just one small laminate 'bubble' next to the spine and the back cover has no barely any wear apart from the small crease top left as stated and a small number of the usual creases next to the spine.  As can be seen it has the Trident logo bottom right.

The lyric inner (with the top two corners cut) is in superb condition and has no side splits.  It is so clean with only a couple of very small faint marks and one tiny tear on the corner of the thumb notch.  A lovely example.
