♦ Queen - "Somebody To Love" ♦
I've placed up for purchase the single released in 1976 titled "Somebody To Love" performed by Queen from their 1982 album "A Day at the Races". A test pressing. 45rpm. Length: 5:05. The label reads in red ink: Queen Somebody To Love. No catalog number but the best I can make out the tiny scribed matrix number it's ES 45362 B. It would be released to the public by Elektra Records. It's in very good condition; I just listened to both sides. No skips, no pops, no scratches, and no scuff marks. Flip side,with no label, is "White Man", 4:58, from the same album. The white sleeve is in mint condition. Combine auctions and save on shipping.
"Somebody to Love" was written by Mercury. The song was inspired by gospel music, especially that of Aretha Franklin, and Mercury, May and Taylor all multi-tracked their voices to achieve the impression of a 100-voice gospel choir. Mercury's vocal part features a wide range of notes, going from an A♭2 (in the last choral verse) to a falsetto A♭5 (at the peak of his melisma on "ooh" over the choir break). Staying true to Queen's guitar-driven style, the track was also filled with intricate harmony parts and a solo by May. The song was the biggest hit single from the album.
