Ann Arbor, Michigan-based seven-piece Racing Mount Pleasant met at the university of Michigan and formed a band called Kingfisher, under which they released one album. This self-titled record is their debut under their rebranded name and became one of the most distinctive and acclaimed albums of 2025, earning favourable comparisons to Black Country, New Road and Arcade Fire. Loosely thought of as a chamber pop or avant-folk record, the band have a knack for creating jaw-dropping orchestral flourish whilst keeping an alt-rock edge. It's a rare thing to get a record that sounds this technical to come off with such grit, but they've managed it and sound like ones to watch for the next decade and more.
