  SO HERE IS THE BIG QUESTION:

  WHAT IS A RADIO SHOW? 

 WHY COLLECT THEM?  

WHERE DO THEY COME FROM? 

 Well, those are good questions, especially if you have never known of them.  

Radio Shows are syndicated productions by one of several large and small distributors who supply broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break.  

Many air on Saturday or Sunday evenings or during overnight segments.

  They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees and Dick Bartley and so many others.  

People collect them for various reasons. 

 Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all.  

Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music.  Rather than an album by the artist or a compilation bought at Wal Mart or downloaded through iTunes or wherever, they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and always with dj comments which were very entertaining. 

 Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments. 

 Some collect commercials especially old car commercials but certainly not limited to only those. 

 AND, these shows are in limited quantity. 

 They were pressed just for syndicated stations in the United States.

  Many have just a few still in circulation.  

Some of the more popular shows may have as few as a couple hundred of each week's show pressed but think about it.  A couple hundred for some 200 million Americans and millions of overseas collectors who look for unique presentations of their favorite artists or form of music is about as rare as rare can be. 

This show itself was only ever sent to the top 175 Metro markets. Smaller markets had to take the satellite feed once it became available.  So at the very most there were only 175 copies of each show EVER.   How do you compute rareness.  175 copies for the whole United States market and 25 years ago or more means that could possibly not be ANY more of these shows and at the very most there are 175 .       How many survived as did the ones I have is anyone's guess. 

This is because most stations just threw these away after network broadcast since they could not be aired again because of the dated commercial content and most stations had limited storage space. (Believe me I know I work at one!) 

 So it is likely that very few still exist and they are increasingly hard to find.  

They were first distributed on reel to reel tape if the show goes back that far into the 60's, then later on lp, later on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR.  Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes. 

These shows become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them and the people who sell them, like me, are running out of them.   My best radio station contact for these shows is out of shows and I am  at the mercy of finding a good deal here and there but never from a regular source and maybe not from a radio station but other collectors. 

 The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase.

  And, I have one of the biggest radio show libraries in the world consisting of over ten thousand unique shows, so many that I don't even know all that I have and am sometimes amazed when I go to look for one show and find another that I did not realize I had. 

 Finally, it is Americana at its best. 

 Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown.

  And you just can't find them anywhere. 

 Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any.   Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of music radio. 

 And every  one you buy is  an original, not a copy, not a remake - all are limited editions in the hundreds at most and most, like this special show,  much less.  Once you get hooked, like me, it is a love affair for life!  Welcome to the Club!

Now let's talk about this great series, AMERICAN COUNTRY COUNTDOWN WITH BOB KINGSLEY

 Picture yourself back in the late 50's or 60's, even the 70's.  You were at one with to your transistor radio listening to the top 40 presented by your local radio station.  You had that radio glued to your ear or connected with the little earphone jack that immediately broke.  Your local dj was great.  He knew the music.  He had the gift of talking which rarely occurs anymore.  You loved the presentation of the music as much as the sounds.  You liked the station jingles. 

 And on weekends when the local dj's had off, you listened to either taped shows they did during the week to be played on the weekend or a syndicated radio show featuring one of the greats. 

 It was the golden age of country.  Music was king and the dj's were just as popular.  You can relive those days whether you grew up then or just wish you had, on only a handful of country oldies shows.  THIS IS ONE OF THEM.    Most of you who know me,  collectors who have dealt with me over the years,  know that one of my favorite series of all time is this,      AMERICAN COUNTRY COUNTDOWN WITH BOB KINGSLEY

 I am listing some of my remaining  "American Country Countdown with BOB KINGSLEY" shows. 

 BOB, you will remember, was the, and remains,  the premiere host of country music countdowns.  Bob was a famous dj and became the voice of The American Armed Forces Radio and Television  Networks daily show playing rock and oldies music to GI's in Vietnam in 1970 (like me) after being the regular sub for then host Gene Weed.  At the same time he was starting as the host of the American Country Countdown weekly show on ABC/Watermark where he continued until 2008 when ABC went in a new direction, brought in Kix Brooks as the host, and Bob was gone from ABC.  Big mistake; Bob just continued his same show with his own distribution company and has continued successfully since.  These shows are the hallmark of country music countdowns. 

It is a weekly three or four hour lp show (the earliest were three hours, later expanded to four hours)  in immaculate  condition looking like it was never played before and in fact it was probably played the day it aired and that's it. 

The show has its cue sheets with it in excellent condition.  The album cover is mostly excellent in condition considering these shows are over 27 years old.

 Now, as to the show itself. 

Each week Bob plays the top 40 of the week along with special interviews and features.  

  AND, you just cannot find these shows anymore.  This, as most all other shows, is no longer distributed except by digital download so there is no media available and in fact I don't have too many of them anyway because they are very hard to find, especially in their mailers to the stations.  

The lp's in addition to being in new condition, are very attractive with the American Country Countdown logo across the front in color.  The rest of the lp has the show number, air date, and across the bottom the American Broadcasting Company logo"  

The show comes in an attractive cover which changed from a box in the earliest shows to a typical album cover for the bulk of the series  with the American Country Countdown logo across the front and the ABC logo across the bottom.

  This show aired on DECEMBER 24 AND DECEMBER 31 1991 AND WAS THE ANNUAL END OF YEAR SPECIAL. 

IT IS SHOW #91-51 AND 91-52

IT CONTAINS THE TOP 100 OF THE YEAR IN A SEVEN HOUR TRIBUTE FROM 100 - 1.  STATIONS COULD DO IT IN A TWO WEEK SHOW WITH HALF ONE WEEK AND HALF THE OTHER WEEK, OR ALL 7 HOURS BACK TO BACK.

END OF YEAR SPECIALS ARE AMONG THE RAREST AND MOST SOUGHT AFTER BY COLLECTORS OF ALL MUSIC GENRES.  THIS GEM SHOULD BE IN YOUR COLLECTION AS IT HAS BEEN IN MINE ALL THESE YEARS.

IT CAME IN TWO ALBUMS BOTH WITH A SPECIAL 'YEAR END SPECIAL' SEAL ON EACH.

 NOTE:  AMERICAN COUNTRY COUNTDOWN was the ONLY country countdown show allowed to use Billboard Magazine Charts, AN EXTRA FEATURE.

When you own this show, not only will you own the tunes but also interspersed between songs is fascinating commentary and many in depth interviews.  

Also, keep in mind that this and all the country shows are not just about the music - the music can be found anywhere.  It is the mixture of great music and great announcing that makes it so entertaining. 

 As well, it is a piece of radio history.  You just aren't going to find these shows anymore.  Think of what they will be worth in a few years!  (IF you wanted to sell.)
