PHILLIP RANELIN / WENDELL HARRISON "A MESSAGE FROM THE TRIBE" LP - Tribe Records, catalog number AR 2506. This is a beautiful original 1973 stereo pressing of this monster rarity Afro jazz LP - NOT a reissue. Personnel: Phillip Ranelin/trombone, vocal and misc. instruments; Wendell Harrison/tenor sax, flute and misc. inst.; Marcus Belgrave/trumpet, flugel horn and misc. inst.; Aaron Neal/bass clarinet and misc. inst.; Charles Moore/trumpet, flugel horn and misc. inst.; Reggie (Sho Bee Doo) Fields/acoustic bass; Will Austin/acoustic bass and electric bass; Keith Vreeland or Charles Eubanks/electric piano and misc. inst.; Ike Daney or Billy Turner/drums and misc. inst. The vinyl is in mostly M- condition (beautiful sheen) and plays absolutely great throughout the vast majority of the record. First track on Side 2 has a faint mark that is audible for the beginning 50 seconds of the song + a very small, very minor pressing flaw near the end of the song. I thus grade the vinyl a strong EX+ overall. The cover is in M- shape: bright and clean with tight seams, still protected by the cellophane shrink wrap!! There is NO significant age wear, NO seam splits of any kind, NO bends or creases, NO cut-out marks of any kind. The front cover graphics are particularly striking. The songs are: What We Need; Angela's Dilemma (Instrumental); Angela's Dilemma (Vocal); How Do We End All This Madness (Instrumental); How Do We End All This Madness (Vocal); Wife; Merciful; Beneficent. This is a beautiful item for the serious collector.
