The tunes of course are beyond reproach, and actually even the best known Talking Heads tracks are perhaps best heard in their extended versions. Its very easy to imagine these tunes rocking the late seventies floors, when twelves were still comparatively in their infancy as a jockeying format. “I Zimbra” particularly screams out, from bang in the middle of the period when Eno and Byrne were switching onto the potential of “ethnic” music and tapping fully into its polyrhythmic currents. “Once in a lifetime” – well what else can you say – I’ve seen hip-hop crowds, funkers, detroit heads, everyone loses it to this record, has their own recollections of particular sounds playing it, times and places, never fails to kick it. “Seen and not seen” sounds like a readymade cosmic classic, always been a downbeat favourite for me, and here in sublime extended form, fair takes your breath away. We’ve all come over a bit funny listening to this – killer music!
