These discs are from the Armed Forces "Symphony Replacement" series which were issued to Armed Forces radio stations during world war two and were to be used if any of the discs from other classical music series were missing, damaged or otherwise unplayable
These discs feature an excellent concert by The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra
"The Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra" radio broadcast #7 From August 27, 1944 featuring the orchestra conducted by SIR THOMAS BEECHAM with guest piano soloist Amparo Iturbi. The location of the concert isn't stated in the broadcast, but is most likely from The Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood, CA. It is definitely an outdoor venue as a plane can be heard flying overhead at the start of the broadcast
Selections include "Overture To Mignon" (Ambroise Thomas), "Two Dances From The Bartered Bride" (Bedrich Smetana), "Voices Of Spring" (Johann Strauss), "Larghetto & Rondo From Haydn's Piano Concerto IN D Major" (Joseph Haydn) featuring piano soloist Amparo Iturbu, "Ballet Music From Faust" (Charles Gounod)
THERE ARE A COUPLE OF SCRATCHES THAT CAUSE SOME CLICKS BUT NO SKIPS, OTHERWISE THESE DISCS ARE IN EX- CONDITION WITH EX-/EX SOUND, BEAUTIFUL DISCS!
PLEASE NOTE THAT MOST STANDARD TURNTABLES WILL NOT PLAY 16 INCH DISCS DUE TO THEIR SIZE. FOR $10 I CAN MAKE A CD TRANSFER OF THE DISCS FOR THE BUYER ONLY
