1951 performance of diva Maria Callas –
LA GIOCONDA –
3LP Cetra Box C-1241 – US Pressings
With the flowering of Maria Callas came huge demands for every performance available of the dramatic diva. In the US, one of the early record companies to save the day, was Cetra, who searched high and low for performances, worldwide.
This is Callas in 1951, delivering LA GIOCONDA, along with soloist support from Maria Amadini, Giulio Neri, Fedora Barbieri, Gianni Poggi, and Armando Benzi, among other notables; Antonino Votto at the helm of the Orchestra of Radio Italiana of Turin.
Box of this rare edition is now a lift-top with the binding having let go. Still remains handsome, though a small portion of the spine (about an inch) is missing. Also, the laminate on the cover of the box is bubbled slightly; otherwise, looks classically old, as in vintage.
Within, are three heavy platters that should play NM- to VG+.
A classic set, capturing a diva at the very height of her powers, pressed fifty+ years ago.

Shipping and handling is $5 for up to 5 LPs shipped within the States. Internationally, $15 via airmail for the first LP, $3 each thereafter. (Canada is half that.) Boxes over 4 lbs., add another $6, because First Class is no longer available at that weight, just Priority Mail. Note, too, boxed sets of LPs require more postage.
